The “Mass Media” is a monolith. Practically every major news outlet, film and television studio, radio station, and other “brand name” source of information is controlled by a handful of executives at the “Big Six” media firms. For decades, this elite group has dictated the acceptable parameters of public discussion; pushed its agenda on the people of the world; and manipulated information availability to influence the reality of hundreds of millions of readers and viewers. But their time is coming to a close.
The Media Monolith: Who Owns The Media?
The image below is a snippet from a revealing infographic about consolidation in the mass media. Six companies control the information diet of nearly the entire population of the United States. Their reach also extends globally, covering the entire English-speaking world and hundreds of millions more through part-ownership and partnerships.
Information Is Power. The media cabal uses its vast reach to set the narrative, manufacture consent, influence reality, and maintain its own power. The chief concern of the modern mass media is to maintain the system that keeps power in elite hands. Globalist corporatism enriches the ruling class that owns the media, and is thus sacred. Politicians that serve the interests of media owners are lavished with praise and favorable coverage. Events that don’t fit the narrative aren’t covered, or relegated to the back pages.
The Media Is An Elite Mouthpiece
Mass media, particularly print newspapers, has been a money-losing business for over a decade. Yet powerful and influential people continue to involve themselves in the media industry. Carlos Slim, worth $50 billion and once the richest man in the world, is the largest shareholder in the New York Times. Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, bought the Washington Post in 2013. Two billionaires buying legacy businesses that lose millions of dollars a year, and don’t have a clear path to profitability. Why? The elite own the media to influence the public – profitability is not a concern.
How To Fight The Monolith
The “news”, Hollywood, radio, mass media. The elite uses these tools to manipulate your reality, by only showing and telling you what they want you to know, or how they want you to think. Always read or watch with a critical eye. The news is narrative – read it as you would a story, and seek out the agenda being pushed.
The internet changed everything, and every new piece pushed by the media has thousands of comments and rebuttals. Bloggers and independent journalists have equal access to the audience, if the audience is willing to look. The mass media are no longer the gatekeepers of information. As they struggle to maintain their control, they will become increasingly desperate for your attention. From politics to economics, sports to celebrity culture, the narratives will only become more frenzied and absurd. Find new sources, and come to your own conclusions.
